Providence Health & Services Speech Pathologist in Anchorage, Alaska
Providence is calling a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) (Day Shift, 0.5 FTE) to St. Elias Specialty Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. We are a community of caregivers who deliver every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.
To evaluate and treat patients, check their communication, cognition and swallowing disorders. Develops, coordinates and maintains Speech Language Pathology services in collaboration with physicians, primary partners, and patient/family. Assists in direct patient care. Collaborates with other team members to plan and provide important aspects of care, in compliance with standards and guidelines established by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.
In this position you will:
Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates Speech Language Pathology services under the prescription of a physician licensed in the state of Alaska.
Communicates with team members and outside agencies to identify patient needs, changes, overall condition of patient, and determine future levels of care.
Collaborates with Case Manager or facility designee to ensure reimbursement.
Contacts vendors for durable medical equipment needs.
Assists in coordinating discharge plan.
Provide patient and family education in a variety of physical settings.
Demonstrates competency and knowledge of specific department equipment.
Exhibits critical thinking skills and activities relevant to level of education, training and specialty.
Implements care/services that recognize age/diversity specific need/issues of customers served.
Performs other duties as required.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology required;
current Alaska State License to practice Speech Pathology;
About St. Elias Specialty Hospital:
St. Elias Specialty Hospital is owned by Providence Health System. The hospital has 59 beds, almost all private rooms. The facility features state of the art equipment to provide extended inpatient acute care for patients.
At St. Elias Specialty Hospital, we provide customized, physician-driven services for patients requiring longer stays in an acute care environment due to multiple or complex medical conditions. We are not a permanent placement for patients; rather we are an answer for many patients who are acutely ill and need to take the first steps towards rehabilitation or home.
