Providence is calling a Registered Nurse (RN) Surgical Team Lead to the Operating Room (Day Shift, 1.0 FTE) at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. How do you define your work in the Operating Room? The Operating Room at Providence Alaska offers a much different definition than the traditional meaning. It's a place where passionate nurses come together on a daily basis to enhance the quality of life for someone, or more importantly, save someone's life. With over 1,000 cases per month, it's crucial that we have experienced nurses supporting each specialty. This position will be focused on general surgery, and serve as the subject matter expert in this area. You will be given a voice in an environment that fosters open communication and learning. With state of the art equipment to include the new XI robot and hybrid room for minimally invasive procedures, we offer an environment unmatched by any other in the region.

In this position you will:

  • Serve as the primary coordinator for a surgical speciality(s) that result in well-coordinated patient care; a high degree of staff and physician satisfaction; excellent quality of care delivery; and the coordination of activities of a surgical specialty.

  • Direct and coordinate the care given by members of the OR team in a collegial manner.

  • Be accountable for the delivery of quality care to patients and families meeting the individualized needs of the patient and following the nursing process in accordance with the Alaska State Nurse Practice Act.

  • Be a preceptor and mentor for all members of the surgical specialty and assume responsibilities of orienting staff.

  • Perform all duties in a manner that supports team concept, collegial, collaborative caring, and respectful, reflecting the mission, vision and core values of Providence Health and Services.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Nursing degree/diploma required upon hire

  • All Registered Nurses without a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree or higher must obtain a BSN within 3 years of hire. RNs with 20 years of RN experience will not be required to obtain a BSN

  • Unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in state(s) of hire, and wherever care is delivered. If RN holds a multistate license through the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), the RN must adhere to the requirements of licensure in the new state(s) of hire

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers upon hire

  • National Certification in area of specialty within 1 year of hire

  • 12 months acute care experience working with the patient population similar to department of hire or completion of the specialty residency at the Alaska Medical Center

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree

  • 5 years of Operating Room (OR) experience
