Providence is calling a RN House Supervisor (Nursing Admin, Day Shift, 0.9 FTE) at St Elias Specialty Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.
**Sign on Bonus available $2,500 - $7,500 based on experience!
In this position you will:
Make patient assignments.
Communicate with other departments to ensure patient needs are met.
Align staff expertise with patient need during the shift; makes staffing adjustments as needed.
Supervise and assist staff with work assignments and ensure timeliness and quality of service.
Respond to staff needs and provide appropriate problem resolution interventions; take initiative to resolve issues.
First responder to patient/family/physician complaint on assigned shift.
Demonstrate superior guest relations skills.
Direct staff on patient confidentiality issues.
Coach and mentor staff members on customer service.
Ensure inexperienced staff have an optimal experience while in orientation and are appropriately supervised.
Communicate unresolved or recurring complaints to Nurse Manager.
Ensure staff adheres to standards of nursing care in daily practice, including proper use of Patient Teaching Records, Management Protocols and Procedures.
Provide input into the development/ revision of unit/department policies.
Direct staff in emergency situations.
Facilitate interdisciplinary team management of patient care on unit.
Perform direct patient care as described in Staff Nurse job description on an as-needed basis.
Staffing and Equipment Utilization
Make recommendations for creative staffing options for call-ins, increased workload.
Identify needs for additional/new patient equipment.
Assure appropriate utilization of equipment based on protocols/standards for most cost-effective delivery of care.
Identify learning opportunities during the shift for new staff.
Assist with employee hiring, training and ongoing evaluation functions.
Monitor staff performance and provide verbal feedback to staff for improvement; take performance issues requiring progressive discipline to Nurse Manager.
Sign external agency payment verification.
Provide staff members with informational update at beginning of shift.
Provide information with shift staff members obtained via care conferences or supervisory meetings.
Elevate staff concerns identified during assigned shift.
Initiate progression of chain of command with physicians in problem resolution.
Pursue opportunities and education to improve front-line supervisory skills.
Attend educational programs and training sessions to continue to develop clinical expertise.
Gain confidence in the use of progressive discipline process.
Continue to develop critical thinking skills and ability to apply to clinical situations; role models to staff.
Other job related duties as assigned.
Required qualifications for this position include:
BSN and a minimum 3-5 years direct patient care experience with at least 2 years ICU/Coronary care nursing experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
State of Alaska Registered Nurse (RN) license
Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Previous charge or supervisory experience
CCRN / PCRN certification

St. Elias Specialty Hospital is owned by Providence Health System. The hospital has 59 beds, almost all private rooms. The facility features state of the art equipment to provide extended inpatient acute care for patients.
At St. Elias Specialty Hospital, we provide customized, physician-driven services for patients requiring longer stays in an acute care environment due to multiple or complex medical conditions. We are not a permanent placement for patients; rather we are an answer for many patients who are acutely ill and need to take the first steps towards rehabilitation or home.
