Providence Health & Services PACS Administrator in Anchorage, Alaska


Providence is calling a PACS Administrator (Imaging Admin, Variable Shift, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. In this position you will:

  • Manage the distribution and storage of digital images from a variety of sources, including computed tomography, computed radiography, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, etc.

  • Provide application-level PACS support, including image workflow, auto routing, and other activities. Integrate diagnostic images with Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and Radiological Information Systems (RIS).

  • Ensure that digital image data transfers are properly entered into the PACS system, RIS validation, and exceptions handling.

  • Collaborate closely with the IT department to ensure the smooth operation of all PACS hardware and software.

  • Provide user training in regards to the proper use and operation of PACS equipment and software applications.

  • Monitor PACS performance as it relates to overall network performance in order to minimize slowdowns and downtime.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • 2 years experience in PACS, diagnostic workstation technology or information technology

  • Experience setting up and customizing local workstations

  • Experience working on and updating 3D workstations (Siemens and GE)

  • Technical knowledge of image capture and archiving technologies

  • Hands-on hardware and software troubleshooting experience with radiology applications

  • Previous exposure working in a large PACS environment

  • Good knowledge of current network protocols, data transfer systems, including TCP/IP, DICOM, HL7 etc.

  • Pacs equipment support

  • Able to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and healthcare guidelines

  • Ability to operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories

  • Strong knowledge of applicable document retention (ISO 9001) and copyright laws

  • Familiarity with project management techniques and procedures

  • High understanding of confidentiality and data privacy laws, as well as federal legislations such as HIPAA

  • Understanding of organizations goals and objectives

  • Have a customer service mindset

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Radiologic Technology

  • Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) from the American Board of Imaging Informatics (ABII) or equivalent

  • License in Imaging Technology (Radiology, Ultrasound, MRI, etc) from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)

  • Certifications in PACS (CPSA, CPIA, CPSM, MCITP)
