Providence Health & Services Medical Assistant Apprentice – PMG Alaska in Anchorage, Alaska
Providence is calling a Medical Assistant Apprentice to Providence Medical Group Alaska in Anchorage, AK (Day Shift, 1.0 FTE). The Medical Assistant Apprentice is entering into a registered apprenticeship program with Providence Medical Group Alaska and Alaska Primary Care Association and Alaska Southcentral Area Health Education Center. At the completion of the apprenticeship, the medical assistant apprentice will be prepared to sit for national medical assistant certification exams. Apprentices will receive a pay raise midway through the apprenticeship and upon completion.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Hands on learning of all aspects of the medical assistant profession under the guidance of a CMA mentor and within the scope of the medical assistant apprentice education
Complete rotations in primary care and specialty departments
Greet and prepare patients for the practitioner. Obtain and record vital signs and other appropriate information, such as height, weight, presenting problems, and other medical information.
Ensure confirmation of patient identity with each patient encounter.
Under the delegation of a licensed practitioner and CMA mentor and as appropriate per role and certification, obtain specimens, perform required testing, administer medications via oral, topical, ophthalmologic, or inhaled routes; administer vaccines including combination or multi-dose vaccines.
Provides accurate, complete, legible, and timely documentation of all procedures performed in the patient's medical record.
Follows correct procedures for handling and disposing of biohazardous, infectious, and pharmaceutical waste.
According to organizational standards, prepare, clean, and sterilize, and/or reprocess, instruments (autoclaving) and maintain equipment with validated competencies.
Reinforce patient education, materials, and lab results (normal); return phone messages; all as directed by the licensed practitioner and CMA mentor.
Under the delegation of a licensed practitioner and CMA mentor, assist or perform point of care tests and clinical procedures as appropriate to training, scope of role and/or certification
Provides open and timely communication and information to patients, families, and practitioners (as appropriate).
Provides MA administrative and clinical support required to deliver quality patient care via a telehealth or virtual visit platform as an extension of in-clinic services and patient care strategy.
Consistently meet skill-based competency expectations established for the organization.
Perform administrative and/or clerical support duties for practitioner, other medical assistants, or clinic/location as directed. (ex. pre-authorizations, schedule appointments, referrals, clinic inventory and/or outdated medications/supplies, etc.)
Works in a safe manner, adhering to general safety precautions and standards. Reports any unsafe conditions to their supervisor and/or the safety hotline.
Actively participate in continuing education and clinic/location staff meetings and/or training.
Assists with emergencies as needed under the direction of a licensed practitioner.
Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization and serve as an ambassador for the organization when interfacing with anyone outside the organization.
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Coursework/Training: Enrollment in the Medical Assistant (MA) Apprenticeship Program within 60 days of hire
When 50% of required competencies are completed (as indicated with check off by CMA mentor) MA Apprentice will receive 1st increase in pay
When MA Apprenticeship Program is successfully completed MA Apprentice will receive 2nd increase in pay
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) - Must be American Heart Association (AHA) accredited
Must enroll in the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program with the Alaska Primary Care Association and Alaska Southcentral Health Education Center by March 25, 2022. Instructions will be provided if hired
Preferred qualifications for this position includes:
Six (6) months of Medical assistant experience
Six (6) months of Healthcare experience in a setting with an Electronic Health Record (EHR)
Six (6) months of Prior experience providing a high level of customer service in a fast-paced environment
