Providence Health & Services Infection Control Coordinator in Anchorage, Alaska
Providence is calling a Infection Control Coordinator (Infection Control, Day Shift, 1.0 FTE) at St Elias Specialty Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. In this position, you will:
Collect and interpret data on nosocomial infections through daily surveillances to include review of culture reports, temperature charts and isolation orders; prepare and distribute reports of findings to the Infection Control Committee to include interpretations, projections of trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Collect data in support of epidemiological studies of specific problems or problem areas to determine source of the problem and provide appropriate recommendations
Develop, update, and initiate isolation techniques and procedures in accordance with current standards of practice, rules, and regulations; ensure adherence with isolation techniques and procedures to provide optimum care to patients with nosocomial infections
Participate in maintaining policies and procedures which provide for a program of preventive medicine for hospital patients and personnel to include establishment of policies and procedures relating to exposure to infectious diseases, prevention of cross-contamination, and microbiologic sampling of hospital patient and personnel
Plan, organize, and conduct educational programs for hospital employees which convey specialized knowledge and skills to increase employee awareness of existence of nosocomial infections, techniques for avoidance and preventive measures to provide a safe environment for hospital employees and patients
Recommend and evaluate procedures or policy statements relating to infection control within St. Elias Specialty Hospital; maintain an updated reference manual on infectious diseases and hospital infection control as recommended by the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Hospitals
Facilitate the organization of regularly scheduled Hospital Infection Control meetings
Act as a source of reference and provide information relating to the field of infection control for all departments in the Hospital
Work closely with Quality, Risk, Safety, Environment of Care and other departments to facilitate a culture of perpetual safety and improvement
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program with coursework in infection control and/or environmental/biological safety
State of Alaska Registered Nurse licensure
Certification in Infection Control (CIC) within 12 months or when eligible according to the (APIC) standards
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
2 years of nursing experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience

St. Elias Specialty Hospital is owned by Providence Health System. The hospital has 59 beds, almost all private rooms. The facility features state of the art equipment to provide extended inpatient acute care for patients.
At St. Elias Specialty Hospital, we provide customized, physician-driven services for patients requiring longer stays in an acute care environment due to multiple or complex medical conditions. We are not a permanent placement for patients; rather we are an answer for many patients who are acutely ill and need to take the first steps towards rehabilitation or home.
