Providence Health & Services HR Consultant and Investigator in Anchorage, Alaska


Providence is calling for a highly skilled HR Consultant and Investigator. Candidates for this role may reside in Alaska, Washington, Montana, Oregon, California or Texas.

We are seeking an HR Consultant to serve as a strategic subject matter expert to Area CHROs and Caregiver Relations Consultants who face complex employee relations matters where expert knowledge and assistance is needed. They are responsible for identifying and assessing situations for compliance and policy concerns, and making recommendations and promoting consistent and best practice approaches to positive employee and labor relations. In addition, the Consultant supports Labor and Employment Counsel in the investigation of legal and administrative matters. Members of the team also serve on SME teams such as DFW, ADA/LOA, Separations, Performance Management and Compliance as well as provide oversight on Caregiver Relations work product and mentorship of Caregiver Relations Consultants.

The following is a list of responsibilities:

  • Conduct complex ER (Employee Relations) assessments and/or investigations of complex or high-risk situations, at times under attorney client privilege. Work collaboratively with Sr HR leadership and others, including legal counsel, as appropriate, to address findings and make recommendations.

  • Identify, assess and make recommendations on highly complex matters to include Title VII allegations

  • Support labor and employment counsel, both internal and external, in investigating and researching claims, responding to information requests/document production, and deposition support, preparation for mediation, arbitration and unfair labor practice charges.

  • Work collaboratively with CHRO and Caregiver Relations to manage risk and provide consistency in the administration and delivery of HR services (Risk Management, regulatory bodies, EEOC, state and municipal agencies--, ADA/LOA, Wage & Hour, Wrongful Discharge).

  • Identify opportunities for problem resolution mediation to resolve issues between management and employees.

  • Provide SME expertise in reductions in force, ADA, DFW, Separations, Performance Management, and the Compliance and the investigation process (Mentor Caregiver Relations Consultants and provides oversight on their investigations.)

  • Analyze and interpret HR data and other data sources for trends and opportunities.

  • Advocate for fair & consistent workplace practices in accordance with mission, values, and legal parameters.

  • Promote and utilize HR technology, metrics, and systems to support the overall needs of the business.

  • Collaborate with Senior HR leadership and others if new tools are needed to ensure customers are provided trend reports and analytics in the most efficient manner.

  • Make recommendations, drafts documentation and provides SME consultation on HR policies and procedures.

  • Provide employee relations expertise on projects. May lead projects.

  • Conduct periodic and regular audits for wage and hour compliance and other policy variation.

  • Provide training and education to all levels of the organization regarding interpretation and implementation of applicable laws, HR policies and new initiatives.

  • Serve as a SME to Caregiver Relations team to provide interpretation of CBAs.

  • Conducts Integrity and Compliance investigations.


Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business or related field or equivalent experience in lieu of bachelor's degree.

  • 8 years experience in general human resources, or equivalent work experience, at exempt level, in multi-state/location, service line of business.

  • 8 years demonstrated experience in the area of Employee Relations, Labor Relations, ADAAA, and leaves of absence.

Preferred qualification:

  • Master's Degree in Human Resources, Business or related field.

  • 5 years project Management experience.

  • 5 years experience in the specialty areas of Drug Free Workplace, Compliance, Performance Management, ADA/LOA.

  • 5 years supervision of Human Resources staff or equivalent work experience.

  • HR Certification (SPHR/SHRM-SCP or PHR/SHRM-CP).
