Providence Health & Services Histology Technician in Anchorage, Alaska
Providence is calling a Histology Technician (Anatomic Pathology, Variable Shift, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. In this position you will:
Perform all operational, maintenance and documentation duties in the preparation of surgical tissues.
Perform the Pathology Lab Assistant duties and specimen log-in duties.
Perform histology procedures including embedding, cutting, mounting, staining (routine, special and immunohistochemical) of surgical tissue specimens.
Generate and complete worksheets, temperature logs, workload entry and equipment maintenance logs.
Effectively communicate with lab and hospital staff, physician and office staff, to ensure accurate and timely completion of the daily pathology workload.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Graduate from a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited Histotechnician program or an Associate’s degree from an accredited program with 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry
H.T. certification per American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or eligible under one of the following per ASCP guidelines: Note: Eligible candidates must obtain certification within 18 months of hire
Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program within the last 5 years prior to the date of application for examination; or
Associate degree or at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry, and one year full time experience in histopathology in the U.S., Canada, or a CAP/The Joint Commission (JCAHO)/AABB accredited laboratory within the last 10 years under the supervision of a board certified Pathologist or Medical Scientist.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- 1 year of histotechnology experience
