Providence is calling a Diabetes Educator (Diabetes Clinic, Day Shift, 0.5 FTE - 20 hours a week) to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. In this position you will:
Provides individualized or group instruction to diabetes/nutritional patients having routine or specialized needs:
Assesses educational need based on stages of growth and development, and the normal aging process.
Demonstrates knowledge of diabetes and able to communicate this information with the patients.
Demonstrates, when RD, knowledge of nutritional requirements of multiple disease processes and able to communicate this information with patients.
Able to identify high risk and specialty populations and provides teaching tools for these populations.
Demonstrates knowledge of products used in the care of diabetes; i.e. medications, meters, dietary programs, and exercise regimens, etc.
Demonstrates knowledge of customer service concepts and methods.
Develops, evaluates, and revise education teaching materials for the diabetes/nutritional program including handouts, printed materials, published literature, and diabetes products.
Plans, implements and evaluates the diabetes program in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team:
Attends team meetings, annual meeting, and collaboration meetings as needed for the development of the evolving diabetes program.
Contributes to the success of the Diabetes & Nutritional Center
Diabetes Self-Management Education
Contributes to the success of maintaining Recognition in Diabetes Education.
Demonstrates the ability to design educational programs, make effective presentations and evaluate learning.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Health related field
Current Alaska State license if Registered Nurse; or Dietitian Certification and Registered; or licenses pharmacist
2 years diabetes related experience
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Master's Degree in Health related field
Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist is preferred and must be obtained within 2 years of employment
Extensive knowledge and experience in diabetes and self-management education
Computer skills with typing, business software such as Word and Excel, and PowerPoint
