Providence Chaplain - Roman Catholic Priest in Anchorage, Alaska

Description:

Providence is calling a Chaplain - Roman Catholic Priest (Spiritual Care, Variable , 1.0 FTE) to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.

In this position you will:

  • Has professional, inter-personal contact with patients and their families.

  • Assess and address emotional, spiritual, social and psychological needs of patients as part of the multidisciplinary care team.

  • Has professional, inter-personal contact with staff as part of the multidisciplinary care team.

  • Assess emotional and spiritual needs of staff as related to their professional work in the healthcare setting and/or related to their personal lives impacting their work/life balance.

  • Document assessments, interventions and care plan in patient’s chart at the point of service.

  • Listen to staff and/or physician to identify needs for emotional and/or spiritual support by attending rounds, shift coordinator report, and staff meetings.

  • Complete initial and annual Competency Plan for assigned job and department.

  • Has primary responsibility for pastoral and sacramental ministry with Roman Catholic patients and their families.

  • Celebrate Mass and coordinate back-up Roman Catholic priest coverage during his absence.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college, seminary, university or theological institute in theology, spirituality, ministry, or closely related field.

  • Board Certified or Certifiable within five years by one of these Pastoral Care organizations: National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC); Association of Professional Chaplains (APC); Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).

  • Ordained and endorsed by established ecclesiastical or church authorities and/or religious superiors.

  • A letter from the applicant’s religious authority indicating good standing with his/her faith tradition or denomination (except when in conflict with PHS employment policies).

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Successful completion of one to four units of Clinical Pastoral Education, from an ACPE-accredited program (The Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc.).

  • 2 years of clinical and/or pastoral experience in healthcare setting or other ministry.

  • Master's Degree preferred.
