Providence is calling an Aide Activities (Activities Volunteers, Days, 1.0 FTE / 40 hours per week) to Providence Horizon House in Anchorage, Alaska. In this position you will:
Inform residents about upcoming events in both groups and individually. Reads to residents. Reminisces with residents. Assists residents with letter writing and using the computer. Provides sensory stimulation activities for cognitively impaired residents. Provides reality orientation with demented and Alzheimer residents. Under supervision, assesses and sets therapeutic recreational goals and objectives for resident, evaluates progress or identifies regression, and documents daily attendance.
Picks up, cleans, and maintains activity areas to assure no health or safety hazards exist. This includes, caring for plants, and caring for house pets. Responds promptly in both drills and actual emergency situation, performing role assigned.
Builds and maintains rapport with residents, bolstering their confidence, not rushing them, making time for them, seeking out ones that otherwise might get passed over, having at least one thing that incumbent only does with a particular resident. Supports new residents/employees in learning Care Center routines. Cooperates with other Horizon House departments and other members of the care delivery team to provide optimal continuity of care to residents and their families. Interacts harmoniously with other. Attends and participates at staff meetings, in-service training programs and other meetings as assigned.
Obtain background information, spiritual and written instructions as part of the plan of care. Assist with evaluation of each resident according to their background activity interests, abilities, physical limitations and needs for meaningful activity programs. Records are kept in an accurate, neat, and confidential manner.
Respect resident-centered approach to plan of care. Maintains confidentiality of all resident medical and personal information except to those who have authorized access.
Required qualifications for this position include:
High school diploma or GED
1 year of health care provider in a health care facility or congregate setting
First Aid and CPR Certifications
A valid Alaska driver's license.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Two (2) years college
6 months of activity therapy assistant
